NCFL Pre-season Tournament Sept 21

Tournament marks Norfolk Christian league start

The start of the 2021/22 Norfolk Christian Football League season was heralded by the traditional 11-a-side tournament for half a dozen teams at Sloughbottom Park on Saturday September 18.

Over 100 players gathered in the sunshine for the league’s now traditional pre-season tournament with a series of short but competitive 20-minute games.

Heigham Park Rangers emerged as the winners with four wins and one draw with Eaton Eagles runners-up and Gateway Vineyard in third spot. NCBC were fourth, Stalham Baptist fifth and Silver Road in sixth.

But the real point of the tournament was not the result but getting everyone together, as organiser Paul Nice, league committee member and manager of Silver Road Baptist, explained: “The tournament is very much a chance for everyone to get together as a season opener, to  have good fun, enjoy some football, develop some fitness. But above all just to enjoy fellowship with each other, because in the Christian league that is a really important part of what we do.

“It is all about young men getting together to play football, getting to know each other and very much having Jesus at the centre of it all because he delights in seeing us enjoy ourselves.”

The adult league season proper starts on Saturday September 25 with eight teams competing, also including Sprowston Radicals and St John’s Cathedral.
