Easton win U14 cup to do Christian football double

Easton St Peter's completed a league and cup double on Saturday May 14, when they lifted the Norfolk Christian Football League Under 14 cup, after beating Silver Rd by 3-0. Alan Barnes reports.

The previous week, Easton had secured their league title after a convincing win against Lighthouse. But it was not all easy going after a close-run challenge from Brooke Adventurers. With goal-difference not being taken into account, the deciding factor was Easton's better head-to-head record after finishing level on points with Brooke.

The cup final took place on the 3G pitch at Thorpe High School against Silver Rd Baptist Under 14s, who finished third in the league and were the only team to beat Easton in the league season.

There was an early goal for Easton, when James Alcock reacted quickest to uncertainty in the Silver Rd defence to squeeze home. Silver Rd began to have more influence in the game as the first half progressed, but it was Easton who went further ahead when George Alcock hit a loose ball from 20 yards to catch the keeper and defence unawares.

There were chances for both sides in a fairly even second half, including a huge scramble in the Silver Rd goalmouth, where somehow the ball stayed out of the net.

With Silver Rd still pushing to get back into the game, Easton wrapped up the win in the closing minutes with George Alcock firing in from close range for his second goal of the game.

When presenting the medals and trophy, NCFL committee member Paul Nice paid tribute to both teams for a sporting final and the culmination of much hard work over the season from players, coaches and all those involved.
