Sheringham Methodists celebrate the 1940s

St Andrew’s Methodist Church in Sheringham joined in with the town’s recent 1940s weekend with a suitable celebration on their church lawn. Andrew Bastin from the church’s leadership team describes the scene.

“Sheringham’s nostalgic '40s Weekend' once again attracted huge numbers of visitors and locals, many of whom entered into the spirit of the two-day event by wearing wartime garb. The Methodist Church of St. Andrew’s was not going to miss this opportunity to witness to such masses and so, following an appropriately themed service of Sunday worship, our church lawn became the venue for a joyous wartime sing-a-along.

“Several passers-by dropped in, and we were also awed by the sight of a Lancaster bomber flying majestically overhead.  Any time of war is fearful, but the sense of strengthened community, of a coming together in adversity, often results – and we celebrate that.”
