Tyndale House team to lead Norwich conference

A team from Tyndale House in Cambridge is coming to Norwich in November for a morning conference called Trust, Love, Teach.

The day is hosted jointly by the Norwich Diocese Evangelical Fellowship (DEF) and the Norfolk Gospel Partnership (NGP), and will run from 9am-2pm on Thursday November 2 at St Helen’s Church in New Costessey.

Tony Watkins, Fellow for Public Engagement at Tyndale House, and one of the speakers, said: “We long to help people in our churches to trust the Bible, understand it, and relate it to their world. Come along on November 2 for a day to explore how biblical research can further equip you for this vital task.”

Tyndale House, is an international centre for research that specialises in the languages, history and cultural context of the Bible. It brings together outstanding Christian researchers from around the world to promote Biblical understanding in the Church and beyond. The team is currently engaged in world class, cutting edge, research into the reliability of the Bible, amongst other things.

Another of the speakers, Peter Williams, who is the Principal at Tyndale House, will be coming fresh from having published his new book - The Surprising Genius of Jesus. In it he argues that we should think about Jesus as a “genius”, even though that’s not necessarily the first term that comes to mind. He goes on to explain that when studied in detail, Jesus’ teachings and interactions with others combined such high levels of knowledge and insight, verbal skill, and simplicity that genius is the only appropriate term.

Andy Rees, pastor of CityGates Church in Norwich and Co-Chair of the Norfolk Gospel Partnership said: “If you are in Christian ministry, you’ll know that you are standing on the authority of God’s word. It’s always helpful for our foundations strengthened, as we live in a cynical world when our faith feels increasingly challenged. Peter, Tony and the rest of the Tyndale team will bring compelling and fresh insights, that will strengthen our desire to trust the Bible, love the Bible more deeply and teach it in our ministry to others.”

“I’ve loved hearing about the work these guys are doing, and find their material slips into sermons and conversations with interested enquirers. It’s really exciting stuff that I haven’t heard in normal apologetic books. I really think, whatever your ministry looks like, you’ll find this a very useful morning.”

Anna Price, Community Strategic Manager at St Mary Magdalene, Gorleston, and a member of the DEF Committee said: “It’s been great to work in partnership with the NGP and Tyndale House to bring such a high calibre morning of in depth Bible study to Norfolk. It will enable participants to dig deep into the Bible, and importantly to take away principles for digging deeper when back at home and in our churches.  This is so vital at a time when there is so much confusion about how to interpret the Scriptures.”

Trust, Love, Teach - Developing Biblical Roots in Your Ministry, runs from 9am to 2pm on Thursday November 2, at St Helens Church, New Costessey, NR5 0HG.  Cost is £6 (including lunch). Hosted by Norwich DEF & NGP.
