Norwich charity's appeal for displaced families

Norwich-based charity Care for Children has launched its Christmas appeal to help provide every child with the chance of a loving family, including a new partnership to help displaced families in Armenia.

Norfolk-based founder and Executive Director, Robert Glover, said: “As the festive season draws near, the concepts of ‘home’ and ‘family’ elicit a universal sense of warmth, togetherness, and the joy derived from being surrounded by loved ones. Yet, on a global scale, numerous children yearn for the embrace of a caring family, finding themselves in challenging circumstances that starkly contrast the love and security synonymous with this season.

“At Care for Children, our singular objective is to provide every child worldwide with the opportunity to belong to a loving family. This holiday season, we invite you to join us in this mission. Your generosity can play a pivotal role in shaping a world where every child is embraced by the love and security of a family—a gift that resonates far beyond the holiday season.”

In September, Azerbaijan initiated a military operation into the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh. In a place where there were already shortages of essential resources such as food, medicines and other basic necessities this resulted in over 120,000 ethnic Armenians abandoning their homes in Nagorno-Karabakh and fleeing to Armenia.

The Armenian government are committed to providing shelter and resettling the displaced families but with winter upon us resources are stretched.

Care for Children have recently begun working with the Armenian Government to help in its support of orphans and vulnerable children/families and half of the money from the Christmas appeal will go to support this vital work.

One such family is Lilith’s who spoke of her heart-wrenching journey to flee the conflict in the contested region between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“I never imagined that the day would come when we would have to leave the thousand-year-old land of our grandfathers and fathers. “Unfortunately, that day came and came very unexpectedly and painfully, we had to leave in order to save our lives and our children's, our right to live and be happy.”
