Art and snowdrops at Thorpe Market Church
Local artists will be showcasing their craft at Thorpe Market Church each weekend in February, along with an impressive display of snowdrops in the churchyard.
St Margaret's Church is inviting everyone to their Snowdrop Sundays – every weekend in February, between 12 noon and 4pm. There will be an art exhibition by different artists on each weekend as well as the chance to browse the second-hand books and relax with friends over hot drinks and delicious home-made cakes before a stroll around the churchyard to see the stunning display of snowdrops and David Wright’s amazing wire sculptures.
There will also be musical interludes from Alan Morris on the church’s Norwich organ and maybe the occasional guest singer. There is ample parking at St Margaret’s Church, which is on Church Road - NR11 8UA.
Churchwarden Martin Castle said “Christmas is over, and the jollity has faded somewhat – the nights are long and the days short and cold and spring (let alone summer) is a dot in the distant future – So it is time to lift the mood with a visit to Thorpe Market’s Snowdrop Sundays. You will be sure of a welcome in the warm church by our wonderful volunteers.”
This year’s artists, who will be showing on both the Saturday and Sunday, are:
1 and 2 February - Julie Brooks and Idris Walters will be exhibiting a selection of artworks from 11am, showcasing a range of styles combining observation and imagination, with inspiration drawn from the ever-changing colours and moods of the landscapes and seascapes of North Norfolk and beyond. There will be paintings, pastels, prints and cards for sale.
8 and 9 February - Amanda Springall-Rogers will be showing alongside two other painters and a textile artist. Amanda’s work reflects the beauty, wonder and detail of the natural world.
15 and 16 February – Rosalie Osborne-Gibb, a regular at St Margaret’s, will be exhibiting. With her love and inspiration of coast and countryside, from surf and sunsets to wildlife and landscapes, she will be showing the many aspects of her art in a bright and colourful exhibition. Visit Rosalie’s website here.
22 and 23 February – East Coast Artz, a group of local artists who have regular exhibitions at the church, will be showing a diverse range of paintings, prints, cards, textiles, crafts and driftwood sculptures, often inspired by the local environment.
