Pulling the ropes at Upper Sheringham Church

All Saints Church in Upper Sheringham is offering the chance for anyone to have a go at bellringing when they hold their summer fair in July, and there is no charge to take part.

The Church Summer Fair will run from 10.30am to 3pm on Saturday 19 July, and during that time visitors will be given the opportunity to climb the stairs to the bell-ringing chamber and try to master the art for themselves.

upper sheringham bell 500ATSue Morton is the Tower Captain at All Saints, and says “Do come and try something different and have a go at church bellringing. Contrary to what you may have seen on TV, your feet never leave the floor, and there is no flying through the air!  It’s an opportunity to play some real heavy metal – you won’t find a louder musical instrument!  However, despite what you may think, there is no need to be musical or mathematical.”

Sue explains that all are welcome, but under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult.  You just need to be able to climb a short spiral staircase, stand comfortably and raise your arms above your head.

“We can ‘show you the ropes’ then you can have a well-deserved cuppa and slice of cake before browsing the stalls” Sue said. “Who knows? - This could be the start of an amazing new hobby for you and a chance to make lots of new friends in a fun, friendly and welcoming atmosphere.”

If you have any questions, or if you’d like to have a go, but can’t make this date, please get in touch with Sue at suejmorton@gmail.com or on 07957 229866 (email preferred).
