West Norfolk church begins bell restoration
Historic Litcham Church has begun restoration on its 300-year-old bells ensuring these traditional fixtures continue to serve the community.
All Saints Church in Litcham, a 300-year-old Grade I listed building, has begun restoration work following a £135,00 National Lottery Heritage Fund grant.
The project aims to reinstate the historic clock tower and bring the bells back into use, reuniting the community under the church’s traditional timekeeping and ringing of bells.
Addition funding to make the project possible has come from Litcham Parish Council, the Friends of All Saints Church charity, the Norwich Diocesan Association of Ringers’ Bell Restoration Fund, and individual donors.
Six bells have been removed from the church, four of which are listed as being of historical importance, and will be taken by bellhangers Whites of Appleton which will undertake the repairs.
Tim Angell from the church told the EDP: “We expect the work to take roughly three or four months and when the bells come back they will have been properly tuned as a set and have all new fittings, such as bell wheels and ropes."
