Ethical journalism and AI pilot course launched
A pilot course in Creating Ethical Media and Journalism has been launched by independent press regulator Impress, in conjunction with Huddersfield University and Innovate UK and Network Norfolk is involved from the start.
Network Norfolk is regulated by Impress and editor Keith Morris was invited to the launch event held at the Microsoft offices in Paddington London last week (June 24).
The launch explored themes around journalism ethics and the use of AI in publishing and heard from BBC Senior Advisor on Editorial Policy, Matthew Eltringham, and Microsoft Journalism Director, Noreen Gillespie, as well as Impress CEO, Lexie Kirkconnell-Kawana.
Keith will now be one of a small group of journalism professionals who will undertake the pilot course which will cover a broad range of ethical issues from the world of journalism and content creation, including AI, misinformation, local community reporting and accessible reporting.
After attending the launch, Keith said: “It was a very interesting and topical day looking at two very important and relevant subjects in journalism – ethics and AI. I am looking forward to completing the course and hope that it will improve my understanding of both these topics and others and will, I hope, feed into our work on Network Norfolk, creating even better content for our readers.”
