Sheringham church supports school’s eco drive

Students at Sheringham High School have designed clothes from sustainable material with the help of their local Salvation Army charity shop.

The school was supported by The Salvation Army to hold three Sustainable Fashion personal development days during July where they were encouraged to create imaginative outfits using clothing donated to The Salvation Army charity shop in the town. After designing their outfits, the students held a Vogue style fashion shoot, below, to showcase their new creations.
 
It’s not the first time that the church and charity has worked with the school. Last year, the two came together to host a Vintage and Pre-Loved Clothes sale ahead of the end of year Prom.
 
Rachel Mendes, Head of Art at Sheringham High School, said she was delighted with the outcome. She explained: "We had a great three days for the Sustainable Fashion personal development days. The clothing kindly donated by the Salvation Army worked very well and allowed the students to create brilliant imaginative outfits. We are so very proud of the students as they worked so hard and are delighted to be able to work with our local community on such initiatives especially as the students were able to upcycle and help towards sustainability. I look forward to working together in 2026!"
 
Simon Fenn, Community Manager at Sheringham Salvation Army, said he is always keen to support initiatives like the Sustainable Fashion Days. “It’s a brilliant idea as it encourages young people to upcycle items and find new life in old belongings, reducing waste and making a positive impact on the planet. This aligns perfectly with our mission priority to Care for Creation, our commitment to the responsible use of our planet and we’re proud to partner with projects that help bring that vision to life.”
