Sheringham Methodists support African orphanage
St Andrews Methodist Church in Sheringham will be holding an Afternoon Tea later this month to raise funds for the Good Shepherd Orphanage in Tanzania, and all are invited to come along and support this cause.
The Good Shepherd's House is St Andrews’ chosen charity for this year. The orphanage houses 10 children between the ages of 3 and 17 years and has been effectively running with house parents since the summer of 2022. It is supported by the partnership of charities ‘Together 4 Him’ and ‘Win All for Christ’
Alongside the orphanage, the charities are financing the building of a new Community Hub, pictured above, which will house a nursery and community space. The latest phase of building has seen the installation of a brilliant red roof. The next phase will be providing and fitting windows and doors.
Around the building, there is space to plant crops and house chickens. The youngsters will be encouraged to learn life enhancing skills as well as grow in their Christian faith.
Jean Parton, from St Andrew’s Methodist Church Leadership Team, said: “It is very encouraging to receive reports of the development of the children as they progress through school. One such child is Samson who was just 5 years old when his mother passed away. Unfortunately, he had no education opportunities, which can make life very difficult for a child in Tanzania. Now 7 years old, Samson is enrolled in school, he has more brothers and sisters and he has opened up as he has felt safe and provided for. This young boy already loves to serve others and he does it with the most welcoming smile and biggest heart. Getting to see Samson connect with the love of Jesus in worship and prayer has been so heartwarming.”
The Afternoon Tea will take place from 2pm to 4pm on Friday 15 August at St Andrew’s Methodist Church, Cromer Road, Sheringham, NR26 8SA .
