Norwich pastor's book inspires African churches

Bible study booklets produced by a retired Norwich church pastor are being eagerly read in several churches in Kenya and Uganda and are inspiring Muslims to turn to Christ.

AlanCliffordHolinessCover750Dr Alan Clifford retired as pastor of Norwich Reformed Church in 2022, and had been uploading audio sermon recordings on YouTube. Among several regular Facebook listeners were three African pastors, Pastor Nelson (Uganda) and Pastors Asa and Charles (Kenya).

They all requested more teaching material from Dr Alan, including his Delta Christian Introduction course.

“I then decided to send them a quantity of unused NRC booklets on the subject of Holiness (2001),” he said.

“These studies on the Fruit of the Holy Spirit were originally delivered in NRC Bible Studies prepared for Egyptian graduate teachers studying at the University of East Anglia.

“After several months, it became clear that the Lord was using this humble publication to save souls, revive believers and bring Muslims to Christ. In response to a growing demand, a new edition of Holiness was printed. Regular quantities are now being sent to the pastors for use among their congregations.

“Aided by the generosity of others, I have been able to send donations to fund the purchase of Bibles in the local Swahili language. My 'retirement' ministry now includes Zoom services. It is a joy to present the Gospel to these beloved African brothers and sisters.”

The books have gone down very well and Pastor Asa in Kenya wrote: “Dr Alan, thank you so much for the Holiness books and Kiswahili Bibles programme. They have been a blessing for us and also for the Mumias region and the surrounding areas. The Holiness books are such an interesting, and inspiration to us also and I'm sure to those who hear and read the books also. The Holiness book is a great book to the whole world. I'm praying that the people of the world will open their hearts and search for God because the days we live in are evil.”

Pastor Japheth in Kenya was also enthusiastic. He wrote: “I found one of Dr Alan Clifford’s books entitled, Holiness, on the table in our church office. I took it home and it touched my heart. I was so much blessed with my wife by reading it. I was looking for good spiritual materials to help teach my church and help in evangelism work. Dr Alan’s book really contains very powerful, inspiring and transforming message that is good for church growth and evangelism work. I felt changed, and my spiritual life has been better every day since then. Since I started using the Holiness book to teach our church, our church number have really added from 16 to 36 people.”

Dr Alan said that the new edition of Holiness is dedicated to his late beloved wife Marian. He also sends occasional aid to Marylin and her eight children, the family of the late Kenyan Pastor Mathew who taught the Delta course until he caught and died of malaria 18 months ago.
