Wymondham College was the venue for the annual East of England Summer School (EYSS), organised by The Salvation Army recently, with "Known" being the theme for the week.

Some 55 young people aged 12–25 from across the East of England came together and each day introduced a different name used in the Bible to describe God, such as Shalom (meaning peace) or Jireh (meaning provider), helping young people explore who God is and what that means for them in their own lives.

Harriet Carr from Stowmarket Salvation Army Church said: "Something that I have taken away from the morning sessions is that God is always here, and He is here now. That can be easy to forget sometimes, so I think it’s important to be reminded."

The week also gave everyone the opportunity to develop their skills and try something new. Activities on offer included music, art, dance, sport, media, discussion groups, photography, and more.

Whether participants wanted to be creative, get active, or simply make new friends, there was something for everyone.

Evenings were filled with laughter and energy as the staff team organised a series of themed events. Highlights included discos, a murder mystery, film night (with some High School Musical singalongs), a quiz, a talent show, and team scavenger hunts.

Micah Hall from Kettering Citadel Salvation Army Church reflected on the week: "I enjoyed every moment. EYSS gave me the space to explore my passion, and I discovered how powerful media can be in sharing testimonies, promoting events, and encouraging others in their faith."

The Christian summer school was a chance for young people to discover new talents, deepen friendships, faith, and make lasting memories, all in a safe, supportive environment.

If you're interested in exploring faith in a creative, fun, and supportive environment, please get in touch with your local Salvation Army church for more information.
