New Minister for Norfolk Broads Methodists 

The Norfolk Broads Methodist Circuit will be welcoming their new minister Rev Steve Oliver and his wife Jill at a welcome service in Acle later this month, and all are invited to attend.

Steve will be Minister of the Methodist communities in Acle, Freethorpe, Lingwood and Magdalen Way, Gorleston, and the service will take place at Magdalen Way Methodist Church in Gorleston at 3pm on Sunday 26 October.

 
Steve began his ministry in West Wales as a probationer, then moved to the Thetford, Diss and Mildenhall area as Superintendent. From there he moved to the West Norfolk Circuit as section Minister. He retired to Suffolk in 2020 where he was diagnosed with leukaemia, but has now been in remission for five years. For the last year Steve has been working in the Ipswich circuit.
 
He is married to Jill, a local preacher in training. They have four children and seven grandchildren, three of whom live in America. They also have a cat and two dogs that Steve enjoy walking. He enjoys heavy metal music, football and antique auctions and programmes,  and he collects walking sticks. Steve says, “The antiques interest was taken one step further by appearing on Bargain Hunt with my colleague from Diss. A great experience but unfortunately profits from our items were not very forthcoming!”
 
Steve says that his ministry is very much about people and their journey to faith, whether it be introducing them to Christ or sharing in their continuing growth. He concludes, “The presiding of Holy Communion is extremely important, as is preaching, bible study and pastoral care within the communities I work in. So let us in our prayers ask for guidance and reassurance in the decisions we will make together and that our actions will always reflect love for each other and of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
