Now is the time for action!
The New Year is a time when many of us make new resolutions, and Catherine Ayre suggests that now is the time for us to resolve to take positive action to carry out God’s will.
“How long are you going to wait before taking possession of the remaining land the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has given to you?” (Joshua 18:3)
There’s a time for waiting and there’s a time to go! No more procrastination, but action stations! The Israelites had conquered the land to a certain extent, but now it was time to finish the job off. It’s not how you start a project; it’s how you finish. “Finishing is better than starting.” (Ecclesiastes 7:8).
So why do we hesitate when we have the green light? Surely this causes accidents. You may be looking back and seeing a job well done so far, but it’s at this point you need to put your foot on the accelerator, put your faith into action and advance.
If Peter had weighed it all up before stepping out on the water, he would never have done so. But he responded to Jesus’ voice saying “Come”—and stepped out of the boat. Peter had a goal, a hope and a vision and he fixed his eyes on that goal—Jesus. Staying on track and not getting distracted is vital if we are to finish the race. God is shouting encouragements from the sidelines all the time. He even holds out the water of the Holy Spirit to give us the power and energy to run the race.
Are you waiting for perfect conditions in your life before making a move? “Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they never harvest.” (Ecclesiastes 11:4). I have news for you—there will never be a perfect condition. Your feelings come and go, your finances may be low, your maturity in God may need to grow! But maybe today is ‘Such a time as this’!
“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.” (Proverbs 13:12)
