New Norwich churches debt charity is launched
A small group of Norwich city centre churches have set up a new charity to provide face to face debt advice and are now looking for volunteer mentors, receptionists and trustees.
The full name of the charity is Norwich Community Money Advice Connect Centre but it is also known as 61:1, according to the charity’s Cherri Moseley, who says check Isaiah Chapter 61 verse 1 to see why.
“We provide unconditional, confidential, free, face-to-face advice, to individuals and families in Norwich and are affiliated with the national charity Community Money Advice which provides the regulated debt advice.”
The charity was initially set up by Rev Naomi Tuma when she was curate at St Peter Mancroft Church, now Rector for the Bittern Group benefice in the Diocese of Norwich and will operate initially from The Chantry Hall (behind The Assembly House).
“The charity grew out of discussions within the church congregations during 2023 and 2024 about the financial crisis and the need to share practical money saving tips,” said Cherri.
“NCMACC is now run by its Centre Manager, Sue Whitworth, and a small group of trustees. To grow the charity, we are looking for more volunteers including Money Mentors, Client Support Mentors, Receptionists and Trustees. Head to the website for more information or contact me at cherri@ncmacc.org.uk to arrange an informal chat,” said Cherri.
