King’s Lynn church offers key support for parents
A church in King’s Lynn has recently opened a weekly drop-in café for parents to connect and receive advice from trained practitioners.
Cornerstone Nurture Café is open
every Tuesday between
8.45am and 11.15am at
Cornerstone King’s Lynn Baptist Church.
The session is a friendly drop-in café for new parents, those expecting, and carers. It is a chance to connect with other parents over tea and coffee, as well as an opportunity to talk to trained healthcare practitioners about concerns.
Rev June Love from the church said: “"We've got this wonderful space, this wonderful opportunity. It's taken us pretty much a year to get everyone on board – all of the professionals.
"So my role is co-ordinating, hosting, making it all happen and just basically being here to welcome and point people in the right direction."
Local drop-in sessions like this one can be invaluable to parents looking for answers.
Alexandra Kemp, Progressive Group local ward member on both the county council and the borough council said parents with questions about conditions such as autism and ADHD should be able to get help close to home.
Said said: "It's a bit daunting for parents to have to wait for several weeks, perhaps, or longer than that for some things. It's so much more helpful if people can come and see professionals direct in a more informal setting.
"Parents often don't have cars and so this is why it's so important to have services on the doorstep."
