OBD DIGITAL BANNERNorfolk training day for children and youth ministry

‘One Big Day’ is a conference for anyone involved in ministry with children, young people and families. It will be held in Dereham on Saturday April 25 and bookings are now open.

This is the fourth conference hosted by the Children, Youth and Families Team at the Diocese of Norwich and it is open to people of all church backgrounds.

Inspired by the biblical account of Nehemiah, the day will be an exploration of how through shared endeavour we can be Christ-centred and bold in our discipleship and mission to children, young people and families.

Jonathan Richardson, Children, Youth and Families Development Officer at the Diocese says, “Growing younger and more diverse is a key priority for the Church of England and for many other churches too. We are already seeing the effects of the ‘Quiet Revival’ and a curiosity amongst young people for faith conversations and experiences. Our desire is to help equip, refresh and renew anyone in their ministry to children, young people and families, and our hope is that through the content of One Big Day, churches will be encouraged in their existing provision, or feel empowered to step out where Christ is leading them to start something new.”

The day will include keynotes from Sammy Jordan, Director of The Hive Network, UK which has a vision of reaching every home in the UK with the good news about Jesus by equipping and mobilising ordinary people to become Kingdom pollinators in our everyday lives. With a background in education, Sammy loves finding creative ways to help people learn and grow. She believes that growing people grow people and is particularly passionate about helping Christians embrace our call to be disciples who make disciples.

There will also be seminars in the morning and afternoon where delegates can choose from a range of sessions on different topics including; evangelism, presence with children and young people, intergenerational church, racial inclusion, prioritising children and young people in church ministry, pilgrimage and reflective practices, engaging missionally and understanding what research says about the current cultural context.

The day will begin and end with times of worship and reflection, and a marketplace with information and resources from local and national ministry and network organisations will be available throughout the day, including a resource and bookstall provided by Green Pastures, Dereham.
And, to fuel everyone through the day, there will be breakfast butties, lunch and refreshments, included in the ticket price.

The day is open to those from all church denominations whether you are a volunteer, paid church worker, church leader, teacher, school’s worker, parent or grandparent. Come as an individual, or with a friend or team so you can discuss and share content from across the day.
