Norwich church open for free bicycle repairs
St Francis Church in Norwich will host its Bike Kitchen this Saturday morning, offering free minor repairs from a qualified bike mechanic.
On
Saturday March 7 between 9am and 12noon,
St Francis Church in
Heartsease will open its doors for its
Bike Kitchen.
This is where people of all ages can bring their bikes for free minor repairs, adjustments and advice from a qualified bike mechanic. There are also some serviced pre-owned bikes for bargain prices ranging from trikes for toddlers to adult classic bikes.
The bike mechanic, Richard Lowes (pictured above), who lives nearby explains why he does it: “I've been involved with the Bike Kitchen for five years now. It's become part of my life to carry a bike into the church hall, fix it and see a child or adult ride away smiling knowing they are riding a bike that's safe and being used again. It gives me a lot of satisfaction. Thanks to St Francis Church for giving me the opportunity to learn a lot and meet a lot of different people too."
Julian Bryant, the vicar of St Francis Church said: “We're so grateful to Cycling UK and Richard for helping to make this happen on the Heartsease. It has so many benefits for people and the environment - cheaper travel, physical and mental health, it's fun and helps people socially. There's a real buzz on the days our bike kitchen operates. And do you know what, I think Jesus would ride a bike too - maybe even one from our bike kitchen... So if you're nearby, feel free to drop by on Saturday with your bike."
As well as the Bike Kitchen, St Francis Church has a gardening project which operates on Wednesday mornings and other community activities.
The Bike Kitchen is held on the first Saturday of most months.
