Annual Julian Lecture returns to Norwich this May
Friends of Julian is once again hosting the annual Julian Lecture, and this year’s speaker has now been announced.
The
Friends of Julian 45th Annual
Julian Lecture will take place on
Saturday May 9 from 1pm at
Dragon Hall on King Street.
This year’s lecture, in partnership with the National Centre for Writing, is titled Julian’s Sensory World: Embodied Knowledge in Medieval Norwich and will be delivered by Margit Thøfner, senior lecturer in art history and a trustee of the Friends of Julian.
Howard Green, from the Friends of Julian said: “In her lecture Margit will explore Julian’s sensory world through works of art and music from medieval Norwich and beyond, works that allow us to grasp something of how Julian’s knowledge of her world was rooted in lived experiences rather than just in contemplation.
“The central aim is to show how medieval art and music offers fresh perspectives on Julian’s explorations of what it was and still is to be human in a troubled world.”
The day will begin with the Festival High Mass, including the Companions’ Renewal of Vows which will take place at St Julian’s Church, starting at 10.30am. After the lecture, the Friends of Julian will hold their AGM at St Julian’s Church followed by Evening Prayer.
Seats are limited for the lecture, book your free place online here.
