Harry's walk to support Christian ministers
Beccles Salvation Army leader, Harry Woods, is preparing to undertake a multi-day sponsored walk to raise funds for a new initiative aimed at supporting those serving in Christian ministry.
Harry, formerly the community manager at The Salvation Army in Great Yarmouth, says he has been moved by hearing countless testimonies from people across different denominations who are struggling under the weight of ministry and in need of support, encouragement, and space to be honest.
In response, and following a significant period of prayer and reflection, Harry felt led to establish The Ministry Fellowship Society — a small, confidential fellowship designed to offer support, encouragement, and renewal for those serving in ministry.
To help cover the initial start-up costs of the Society, Harry will be undertaking “The Ministry Pilgrimage”, a challenging walk from Beccles to Ipswich over several days, beginning on Monday May 11.
He said: “This has come from hearing the reality of what many people in ministry are carrying. Often those who support others don’t always have a space to be supported themselves. I felt led through prayer to begin something simple but meaningful.”
The walk will be both a physical and mental challenge:
“This will stretch me, but I will do it in His strength,” said Harry.
More than just a fundraising effort, the walk is intended as a pilgrimage — a time set aside for prayer, reflection, and intercession.
“Throughout the walk, I’ll be taking time to pray for those in ministry — their burdens, their challenges, and their need for encouragement. This is as much a spiritual journey as it is a physical one.”
Harry is aiming to raise £600 to help get the Society established. Anything above this would be fantastic and would allow the Society to reach more people in need of support.
Funds raised will go towards establishing the Society, including online meeting space, resources, and welcome materials for those who join.
If you’re able to sponsor this in any way, your support would be greatly appreciated. Prayer support is also deeply valued as the Society begins and the walk approaches.
