New car park approved for Thornage Church

All Saints Church in Thornage has been given the go-ahead to build a new car park which will make it easier and safer for visitors to the church.

At present, there is only one space at the roadside designated for church-goers to use, with others parking around 200m away along a private track, which is unlit and uneven, and difficult for the elderly or those with mobility challenges.

North Norfolk District Council have now approved plans to relocate parking closer to the Grade-II listed building with the aim of "improving safety and inclusivity for users by reducing reliance on a distant, unlit and uneven route".

The intention is to keep the area as natural as possible, with no lighting, fencing, signage or permanent structures, while providing spaces for up to 20 vehicles.

A report noted that the church is being increasingly utilised for community events, with up to 40 activities scheduled in a year, which reinforced the need for better parking arrangements.
