Volunteer mentor training is offered in Norwich
Community Chaplaincy Norfolk is recruiting volunteer mentors to help with the rehabilitation of prison leavers in Norfolk.
CCN exists to support people as they leave prison and look to rebuild their lives. Essential to this work is the role of volunteer mentor. Volunteer mentors work closely with clients, offering practical support, guidance, and advocacy to prison leavers at a critical time in their rehabilitation journey.
Mentor Co-ordinator Jack Manzi said: "Many people still leave prison without support, and often with no one to meet them at the gate. It can be an overwhelming experience. Having someone there, to meet them at the gate and to offer guidance and support can make a huge difference in helping that person to break the cycle of reoffending."
“If you hadn’t been here, I reckon I would’ve collapsed on the floor in fear!” said ‘S’, a CCN client who was met at the gate by his mentor.
“There’s something very rewarding seeing a person’s life being rebuilt, knowing that I had a small part to play in that,” said CCN Mentor Stuart.
Jack said: "If you are an empathetic person with good communication and organisational skills, and want to help someone break the cycle of reoffending and rebuild their life, sign up to CCN’s mentor training course to become a volunteer mentor."
The course is completely free, takes place in Norwich city centre and runs from 9.30am – 16.30pm across two Saturdays: Saturday June 27 and Saturday July 11. The training covers all aspects of mentoring, including an overview of the Criminal Justice System in the UK, trauma informed practice, and communication strategies.
