Church charity opens new day centre in Norwich

A new Day Centre, run by Community Action Norwich, has been opened in the Lakenham area of Norwich by the Lord Mayor.
The Day Centre was launched on Thursday 21st June at Martineau Lane, Norwich. The Centre run by Community Action Norwich, part of New Hope Christian Centre, attracted some 50 people on the day from the local community. Acting Project Manager Alan Howes was delighted with the day and said “this is a big step forward in helping older people out of isolation and loneliness in the immediate community in which we serve”.
Councillor  Blower attended to help launch the centre with the cutting of a cake. He commented on  “the warmth of community spirit”. Graham Moore, the manager at Corton House, City Road said “what a much needed project” this was. He wished us all the best for the future. Janet Keeley the scheme manager of Lakenfields and Kate Lovesey, the curate at St John’s and St Paul’s Church were also in attendance.
The new Centre is named in memory of a gentleman named Jack Lingwood who attended the Lunch club for the last six years.
Some new people from the community came to join in the day, as well as those who have been a part of the lunch club for many years. Reginald Rushmer and his wife Edith, who are new comers to the centre, were pleased to have somewhere to come that is local  “a place to get out and meet people and do something different.”
Ellen Seville, who is a lunch club member said “it was great to get home at 4 o clock having had a really enjoyable day”.
A great start to a project that will be a source of encouragement, support and friendship to many.
The Centre is open to all people of a pensionable age and transport is available to those who live in the Lakenham and Tuckswood areas.

There are a variety of activities on offer from board games to reminiscence, light exercise to relaxing and reading. Prices range from £3.50 - £5.50. There is something for everyone. As part of the Day Centre there are 4 outings a year which all are invited to attend. Call Alan Howes on 617771 to book a place at the centre – you may be assured of a warm welcome.
