Thanksgiving service for brave Norwich preacher

A funeral and thanksgiving service for courageous Norwich Methodist preacher Colin Gillett, who died recently in Pakistan, is to be held in Norfolk after his body was repatriated to the UK. Keith Morris reports.

ColinGillettChildren664Four years ago Colin Gillett, a local preacher in the Norwich Methodist Circuit, upped sticks and moved from Norfolk to Lahore in Pakistan on a mission for life to work with orphans and street children.

Colin suffered long-term from the debilitating Crohn’s Disease which flared up again recently and caused him to pass away from cardio-respiratory failure on September 7.

While in Pakistan, Colin married Pakistani lawyer, Sunita Nayab, whose family were already supporting a local orphanage.

Sunita raised the money for Colin's body to be repatriated to the UK and now a funeral service for him will take place at St Faiths Crematorium on Tuesday October 12 at 9.30am for family only.

A public thanksgiving service will follow at Wroxham Road Methodist Church at 11am with refreshments there afterwards.

Norwich Methodist minister and family friend, Rev Sharon Willimott, said: "Donations in memory of Colin are invited to support Sunita’s ongoing work in Pakistan – and can be given at the thanksgiving or via Gordon Barber Funeral Directors, 317 Aylsham Road, Norwich, NR3 2AB.

"Sunita has not yet had a response to her application for a visa to attend so please ask for prayers for her at this difficult time."

You knew you would never return of your own accord, I remember our parting and our farewells. I wish I could turn the clock back but you had a job to do and you have done what you set out to do and an excellent job you have done. Now rest in peace my friend, TJ
