Mount Zion announce a new home
Following the devastating fire at Mount Zion in Norwich on Monday night, church leaders have announced that its new temporary home will be at Drayton Hall near Norwich.
Drayton Hall is owned by the Lind Trust and there is a 500-seat hall formerly used by Proclaimers Church but which is now available on Sundays to house the Mount Zion Family Life Centre services at 10.45am and 6pm every week for the next 18 months or so until the Heartsease Lane building can be rebuilt.
The move was made possible when Graham Dacre, a local businessman and chairman of the Lind Trust, stepped in to offer his help and support.
Mount Zion pastor Trevor Pimlott said: “We would like to convey our appreciation and thanks to all the churches and organisations in Norwich and indeed all over the world who have offered their help and support. Almost every church in Norwich has offered us help. It is a real demonstration of the united church in the city. It is in times of crisis such as this that we find out where our true relationships lie.
“A building can be burned and destroyed by fire, but nothing can prevent the heartbeat of the church beating stronger than ever and continuing to generate life to our city and beyond. The fact that our regular services this Sunday will function as normal underlines this. We are excited to be moving to Drayton Hall.”
Graham Dacre said: “This church does an excellent work with young people in the Heartsease area and we see this as a natural extension of our support for the youth in Norfolk.
“The Lind Trust, with its charitable arm, OPEN, share the same Christian core values and vision of positively impacting Norwich and the surrounding areas.”
Buses will leave the Heartsease Lane site 30 minutes before the services at Drayton to transport people there.
Plans are already in place to set up portable offices at Heartsease Lane so that office and community work can continue there. A helpline has been set up for all enquiries on 01603 462200.
A fund has also been established to enable the people of Norwich and beyond to donate cash to help re-establish all the community-based activities in Heartsease, not for the building which is covered under insurance.
Donations should be sent to Mount Zion Family Life Centre, Heartsease Lane, Norwich, NR7 9NT.
