Pancake racing fun at Norwich Cathedral

PancakeRace410Norwich Cathedral choristers put their pancake flipping and racing skills to the test yesterday to mark Shrove Tuesday and the final day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday.

Choristers lined up to take part in the annual Norwich Cathedral pancake races on March 4 with pans and pancakes supplied by the catering team from RAF Marham in a tradition first started by the former Dean of Norwich, The Very Revd Graham Smith, when he first arrived in Norwich in 2005.
Taking place on the Lower Green in the Cathedral Close, choristers aged 8 to 13 robed up in their cassocks before racing down the Green. The eventual winner was Head Chorister Cameron Murphy Lennox.
Other races included the Cathedral Music Department and Works Team. At the end of the races, each competitor was rewarded for their effort with a freshly prepared pancake.
