King's Lynn Churches Together, in partnership with the Purfleet Trust and Imagine Norfolk Together, plan to open a Winter Night Shelter in December in response to the rising levels of homelessness in the borough. The Centre will open for two nights over each weekend until March 2018.
A Management Steering Group is in place and grant funding has already been obtained to enable the project to employ at Night Shelter Coordinator for 16 hours a week.
Kevan Crane, Chair of the Management Steering Group, said: “We are most encouraged by the number of people that have shown an interest in volunteering for the project already, and we are excited to see the vision for the project becoming a reality.
“We aim to provide a safe, warm place overnight for those who would otherwise be sleeping on the streets or in unsafe accommodation. We aim to take in those that come to us, as long as it is safe to do so.”
The night shelter will be open on Friday and Saturday nights at the Purfleet Trust. Volunteers can choose their preferred day and one of three shifts, 5pm-11pm, 11pm-6am and 6am-8am.
Volunteer selection and training will take place during October. `If you are interested in volunteering please contact Kelly Bowen on email@example.com.
