Come and Sing day to relaunch North Norfolk choir

Norfolk Camerata (formerly North Norfolk Chorale) will be hosting a Come and Sing Day to celebrate its re-launch at the 18th-century Octagon Chapel in Norwich on Saturday February 23.

Two very popular works will be the focus of the day: Vivaldi's 'Gloria' has been described as 'a joyful hymn of praise and worship', while 'Zadok the Priest', well known for its performance at every British coronation since that of George II, boasts one of the most thrilling choral entrances in the musical canon.

Guest conductor Martin Budgett will lead a workshop on the music in the morning, and the afternoon session will involve rehearsal for performance, led by our Musical Director, Jonathan Dodd. Our singers will benefit greatly from experiencing two complementary approaches to the music.

The day will conclude with an evening concert starting at 6.00 pm, when the assembled choir will perform these works to an audience, and which will also feature Pergolesi's 'Stabat Mater' with Elenor Bowers-Jolley and Willow Swiatek as soloists.

Norfolk Camerata is a mixed-ability, non-auditioned choir, open to anyone who wishes to sing. The Camerata is interested in recruiting members in all parts, but more tenors and basses would be particularly welcome. Rehearsals are held weekly on Wednesday evenings, starting at 7.30 pm, in North Walsham Methodist Church.

To take part in the workshops and performance costs £16 which includes hire of scores. Tickets for the evening performance cost £10. Participants can bring their own lunch and refreshments to enjoy in the Chapel’s meeting room, or take advantage of the many pubs, cafes and restaurants in this corner of Norwich.

Application forms to take part, or tickets for the performance, can be purchased through the Norfolk Camerata website at www.norfolkcamerata.co.uk  or from Ros at ros.peedle@live.co.uk  or phone 01692 405591.

The Camerata is widening the areas in which it performs to include venues in Norwich as well as north and mid-Norfolk. This is the first of several performances in 2019, including at the Camerata's traditional venue of the church of St Peter and St Paul in Salle, near Reepham on July 6, with a programme of early Baroque music.

To contact the Camerata, please contact the Chair, Mrs Maggie Smyth, in the first
