Gorleston church moves into theatre for carol service
Cliff Park Community Church will be heading off once again to the theatre on Sunday December 8 for their annual Coffee and Carols service.
The church will leave its normal base and take over the Gorleston Pavilion theatre for its annual highly popular carol service, which will feature the full scale Orchestrate! Project youth orchestra, pictured below, and Norwich Young Voices Choir, who will be back after their debut last year.
The relaxed event, hosted by former BBC Radio Norfolk broadcaster Tony Mallion, will include favourite carols, a short talk from Rev Mike Simm, Minister of Cliff Park, and will involve youngsters from the Kids Church and Q3 youth group in a candlelight procession.
‘This Edwardian gem of a venue is the perfect setting for this event, and we are so blessed to have a full orchestra, even if it is a bit of a squeeze to get them on the stage!’ said Tony. ‘As always, a small army of church members will be out with the vacuum cleaners straight after the service to ensure that the theatre is left clean and tidy for their next show!’ he added.
All the carols and other musical items will be conducted by the Orchestrate! founder John Stephens, a member and worship leader at Cliff Park. Coffee and mince pies will be served during the service.
The service starts at 10.30am, but people are advised to arrive in good time as it always attracts a full house. Admission is free and no tickets are required, but there will be a bucket collection at the end in aid of the local Food Bank. Last year over £800 was raised.
The service will also mark Cliff Park Community Church’s 20th anniversary. It was set up by St. Andrew’s and Gorleston Baptist Churches in 1999 and meets each week at Cliff Park Junior School.
The following week, on Sunday December 15, open air Carols on the Green will take place at the Mews on Cliff Park, where mulled wine and mince pies will be served.
There will be Carols by Candlelight back at the school at 4pm on Sunday December 22 and a Family Christingle Service on Christmas Eve also at 4pm.
Gorleston Pavilion Theatre is at: Pier Gardens, Gorleston, Norfolk NR31 6PP.
