Fakenham Christmas tree festival success

Fakenham Xmas trees 344This year’s Christmas Tree Festival in Fakenham Parish Church attracted over 25000 people from across the country, raising a record sum for charity. Tony Rothe reports.

The 8 day festival, now in its thirteenth year, contained 90 decorated Christmas Trees. A record £40,351 was raised of which £23,439 was donated to the 76 charities taking part. The furthest visitor came from Perth in Western Australia.
In addition, during the event, 400kg of food equating to £700 in cash was donated to the Fakenham Food bank by means of a Father Christmas sleigh at the entrance door.
Fakenham Christmas trees 380Fakenham Parish Church now begins a very busy time, with Carols by Candlelight with the Parish Church Choir on Sunday December 22  at 6.30pm  with. This will be Revd. Adrian Bell’s last Christmas as Rector before he moves to Swaffham.
Revd Bell said  'The Christmas Tree Festival  was a great success. This was due to hours of hard by the Festival Team, and also excellent publicity including Network Norfolk . The Festival put Christ back into Christmas for so many people'
Next year’s festival will be from November 27 to December 4  2014.
