Norfolk foodbanks find ways to carry on

Across west and mid-Norfolk, foodbanks are adapting to the current crisis, putting measures in place which are enabling them to continue serving those who need emergency food.

Despite the current lockdown, the distribution centre of the King's Lynn foodbank has remained open.

However, it now only opening for four days a week rather than five as previously, from noon until 2pm. It is now closed on Wednesdays.

Where possible during this crisis, some collection points have remained available, but this is dependent on the individual supermarkets and places who have a collection point. People can donate at the Kings Lynn distribution centre also.

The Thetford foodbank group (covering Thetford, Brandon, Watton and Attleborough) is open as usual at all of the centres. It has of course put arrangements in place to maintain social distancing according to the Government’s guidelines.

At the warehouse in Thetford, the team has had to adapt by taking on a new warehouse to be able to sort food, the current warehouse was too small for volunteers to be two metres apart.

This is a temporary measure to allow the service to continue unhindered through the crisis.

The Mid-Norfolk foodbank has set up a process for issuing Foodbank vouchers remotely.
If you need a voucher, are based in or around Dereham, and cannot obtain one otherwise, please contact Citizens’ Advice, on 03444 111 444, or Breckland District Council on 01362 656870.

If you need a voucher, are based in or around Fakenham, and cannot obtain one otherwise, please contact Fakenham Connect (North Norfolk District Council), on 01263 513811.

Mid Norfolk foodbanks are still open as per their location information here
