Norwich Youth for Christ breaks Covid isolation

Each day Norwich Youth for Christ is giving young people in lockdown a chance to say ‘Hi’ online. Nick Blanch, Director of Norwich Youth for Christ, reports.

We want to keep reaching out to young people with the Good News, but with a lockdown in place, this makes it really difficult to engage with them.

We decided to run some lighthearted videos and rather than make them polished and edited, it’s all live and unedited. It’s a bit rough round the edges, but good fun for young people to join in with and say hi each day. It’s a little way to reduce that social isolation.

In one video, we asked what was keeping people going during the lockdown and one young person said: “This channel.”

Each day has a different focus such as Motivation Mondays, Gaming Tuesdays, Challenge Wednesdays, Thoughtful Thursdays and Creative Fridays. Different team members host each day and respond to the chat that comes up. Each day also has a short Christian encouragement.

Factfile

Who runs the project: Norwich Youth for Christ

Summary: Daily livestreams on YouTube for young people to watch and connect with us.

Description: Each weekday at 4pm we do a live video on YouTube.  For anything between 15 and 30 mins, our staff are online. These are deliberately not prerecorded as we are attempting to have online ‘chats’ with young people who are on YouTube already.
