Norwich leaders exhorted to Christian unity
Christian leaders gathered at Connect Norwich, were encouraged to "work together" by Dr Ian Watson, County Ecumenical Officer, during the week of prayer for Christian unity.
The Connect Norwich gathering was held at Prior’s Hall in the grounds of Norwich Anglican Cathedral, and coincided with the annual week of prayer for Christian unity.
Leaders of churches and Christian organisations from across Norwich heard from Dr Ian Watson, County Ecumenical Officer for Norfolk and Waveney Churches Together. Dr Watson challenged those present to “work together, share resources, learn from each other and be more transparent.”
Dr Watson concluded by exhorting attendees to “strengthen our ecumenical efforts, and commit ourselves seriously to reconciliation, collaboration and acting together. In this way, the one Universal Church becomes a powerful witness to God’s transformative love. Together, we can shine as examples of unity and compassion in our communities and beyond, offering a counter-narrative to an increasing secular world.”
The meeting also heard from the Dean of Norwich, the Very Reverend Dr Andrew Braddock. The Dean shared some of the history of the Cathedral, and in particular Prior's Hall, where the group were gathered. The Dean explained that the hall dates back to 1272, although it had a makeover in the 1530s in preparation for the visit of Queen Catherine, accompanied by Cardinal Wolsey. The Dean also shared the priorities of the Cathedral: growing faith, engaging visitors and serving the community. He explained his desire that it should be “a place of connection between people with people and people with God.”
Future meetings of Connect Norwich are planned for
March 26 at St Catherine's Church and
May 14 at
