N Norfolk church's Dying Matters course success

Did you know that the cost of cremations vary from day to day, and hour by hour, depending upon demand? This, and many other issues around cremation, burial, and funeral plans was discussed at the first ‘Dying Matters’ session at St Peter’s in Sheringham.

The session was led by representatives of Blyth & Sons funeral directors, including Hayley Pegg, pictured above, who were on hand to answer questions.

Discussions included the fact that some funeral directors use local crematoria, while others transport you across the country. Some offer a chapel of rest for family members, others do not. The cost of a funeral varies depending upon where it is held. In a church the celebrant cost is included within the Church of England fee. Funeral plans advertised as standard vary in what is on offer.

It was pointed out that it was worthwhile thinking about our end of life wishes in advance, and is considerate to our loved ones who will need to organise events after our passing, whilst grieving our loss.

Dying Matters is Hospice UK’s flagship campaign. It aims to create an open culture that talks about death, and where people feel able to listen and support people who are planning for end of life, those who are dying and bereaved people.

The next Dying Matters session in St Peter’s Hall on June 11 at 2pm will be on the theme of Advance Care Planning. A representative of The Healing Harbour Charity will attend to explain this and answer questions, so that those attending can explore their options and express their wishes concerning future health care with their families. Anyone is welcome to come along.
