Fire-hit Norwich church in plea for new venue

The leader of a Norwich church, which was destroyed by fire in April, has issued a plea for a hall or warehouse which the church can lease for the immediate future. Keith Morris reports.

The Redeemed Christian Church of God, The Chapel, on Plumstead Road in Heartsease, Norwich, went up in flames during an afternoon service on Sunday April 27 when multiple firefighters attended.

The church is based in the former Wild Stallion dance studio and is a pentecostal church which originated in Nigeria and is led by Pastor Jonathan Onyeme.

Gabriel Abotsle, one of the church deacons at RCCG praised the efforts of firefighters. Speaking to the EDP, he said: "I think we're very lucky to have dedicated fire service when like this happen. They came to speak to us, to reassure us and see whether anyone had inhaled the smoke."

Now Pastor Jonathan has issued a please for a new venue for the church to use and worship in. He told Network Norfolk: “I would like you to advertise that we need a hall or warehouse to lease for a place of worship in Norwich.

“We ideally need a hall that can sit 200-300 people with some breakout rooms and welfare facilities and a couple of offices.”
