Old Meeting House updates its hymn book

The congregation at the The Old Meeting House in Norwich loves to sing hymns, and this week is starting to use a new hymnbook containing both classic and contemporary hymns.

Nestled in the heart of Norwich, the Old Meeting House Congregational Church holds the distinction of being the city's oldest chapel, a beacon of faith and community for centuries. In a bid to invigorate its services and appeal to a broader congregation, the church has recently begun using the new hymn book Sing by Keith and Kristyn Getty. The Gettys were made famous for their song Cornerstone which has become very popular in many churches.

This modern collection of hymns, renowned for its rich theological depth and singable melodies, marks a significant step for the historic church. By introducing contemporary worship music alongside traditional favourites, the Old Meeting House hopes to create a more welcoming and relevant atmosphere, especially for younger generations and families seeking a spiritual home.

The decision to embrace the Gettys' hymns reflects the church's commitment to both preserving its heritage and evolving with the times. Members of the congregation have expressed excitement at the fresh approach, noting that the new songs add vibrancy and warmth to Sunday services. As the Old Meeting House opens its doors with renewed enthusiasm, it stands ready to share its enduring message of hope with all who enter.

There will be a special service on January 25 at 3pm to launch the use of this new hymn book. All are welcome.
