Norwich Christian homeless project relaunches

GenesisHouseGardenWebA Christian project to help ex-prisoners and homeless men in Norwich has fought back from the brink of closure to relaunch itself and is now looking to employ two new projects workers. Charity founder and visionary, Val Dodsworth, reports.

The House of Genesis is a small charity based in Norwich which offers a supportive home to men who come out of prison with nowhere to go.   Genesis is coming up to its ninth birthday and, like many other small charities, has been going through something of a struggle in the last year or so.

In fact, so much of a struggle, that it got to the point of the trustees thinking that it might have to close down.

Earlier this year some pruning had to be done, so that costs were drastically reduced, and the original instigators of the project, Richard Mylott and Val Dodsworth came back to run it again and to find a new way forward.

A new partnership has been forged with a local Housing Association and the project is now at the outset of a fresh and exciting phase in its life.

The existing house which was the “move on house” under the old regime has been sold and a new, slightly bigger property has been bought. Our aim is to provide a friendly and supportive home where men can find their feet again in the community after either a spell in prison or a period of homelessness.

Although those of us who run it are Christians, we accept men of any or no faith into the house and aim to preach the gospel by the way we live rather than by what we say.

In spite of the fears that all of us associated with Genesis held earlier in the year, God has once again proved the truth of His word: “He who began a good work will carry it on to completion...”

We have absolutely no doubt that it was God who gave the inspiration that got Genesis going in the first place, and so we rely on Him once again to take it forward. We are thankful for those who have continued to support Genesis through the difficulties of this year and thankful to God that He has kept His hand upon this work of bringing care and stability into just a few troubled lives.
