The Dreamers of Dreams in Cromer Church

Sheringham and Cromer Choral Society will be returning to Cromer Parish Church on Saturday April 6 for a classical music concert entitled “The Dreamers of Dreams”.

The choir, directed by David Ballard, will be performing reflective works by two of the most successful composers at opposite ends of the 20th Century, namely Sir Edward Elgar and John Rutter.
Elgar’s The Music Makers is a beautiful ode to those who create music, with words by Arthur O’Shaughnessy.  The opening lines set the scene “We are the music makers and we are the dreamers of dreams”.
John Rutter’s popular Requiem is dedicated to his father who had recently died when he completed composing the work in 1985. He combines the traditional Latin text with bible verses in English – notably Psalm 23 “The Lord is My Shepherd” and Psalm 130 “Out of the Deep”.
