Stalham band interviewed on Faithful Radio
Out of Egypt, the Christian Gospel Band based in Stalham, appeared on Faithful Radio’s “Morning Mix” programme earlier this month. Band member Greg Chapman told Network Norfolk about the experience:
Faithful Radio is an internet-based station (http://faithfulradio.com) that broadcasts from Cornerstone Baptist Church in Martham. The programme, hosted by Malcolm Turner, the minister’s husband, goes out live each weekday morning between 10:00 and 12:00 and the Friday show includes a Christian segment.
The band were promoting their recently recorded three track CD, and in the 20-minute interview were able to talk about how they formed. After a set of introductions Diana Gordon, singer with the band, answered Malcolm’s first question saying, “We got together last summer to practice for a Gospel Evening that was being held at Stalham Baptist Church” and then described how the band was asked “why don’t you continue?” having played the gig.
The first song that Malcolm played from the CD was “Egyptian Sand”. Gary Cunningham, the band’s guitarist, explained that he wrote the song 15 or 20 years ago saying “At the time I was thinking it’s not easy being a Christian. I was looking in those verses in Romans where Paul was saying ‘the things I want to do, I don’t do. The things that I should do, I don’t do’, and it’s kind of what this song is about”.
Listeners also learnt how, since that first concert, they have played at primary school assemblies and how a Church of England rector got the band invited to play at them after hearing them at a local “Filling Station” meeting. They also heard how the band are expecting to play at a local prison and want to play at fund raising events for local churches.
Snippets from the CD are available to listen to on their web site and the full CD will be sent to those who are considering booking the band and is available to buy at concerts.
A recording of the interview is now available on the band’s web site at https://www.outofegypt.org.uk/aboutus.html
