New inspiring reading from North Norfolk priest
A retired priest, now living in North Norfolk, has published two new books aimed at helping people to access the Christian faith. Tony Rothe reports.
Revd. Canon Trevor Shannon from Wells-next-the-Sea has already produced the well-received “Understanding the Psalms”, which is a comprehensive and straightforward look at how the highs and lows of human life all find their way into the Psalms.
The two new books published this summer are Stories for Seasons and Mary’s Boy: Making of the Messiah, an Imaginative Journey.
"Stories for Seasons" grew out of Trevor’s reading of Ignatius' Spiritual Exercises. Using his imagination, he hopes to open up and deepen understanding of the stories associated with the Christian Seasons of the Year.
The second book is for anyone interested in thinking about how the baby born in Bethlehem became the Jesus of the Gospels and the Church.
Trevor Shannon, right, has degrees in Theology from Cambridge University and London University, and was a parish priest in Lancashire for seven years before becoming a school chaplain for twenty-two years. His last years as a parish priest were in East London.
Recently widowed, he has four children and a large number of grand and great-grandchildren. and has used the Psalms daily for almost sixty years. He retains many friendships from the years spent playing amateur football and league cricket, as well as from the parishes and school that he served. He and his wife, Maureen, were regular stewards at Norwich Cathedral for some years until his wife died a few years ago.
He still exercises his priesthood in North Norfolk, where he currently lives, and his great desire is to make the Christian faith accessible and attractive to all people.
Both books are on sale at the Revelation Resource Centre, on Redwell Street, Norwich or can be ordered by emailing Trevor: firstname.lastname@example.org
