Norfolk Convent offers guesthouses and retreats

AllHallowsLogoAll Hallows Convent is an Anglican Women’s Community offering guest and retreat accommodation as well as a programme of retreats at centres in both South Norfolk and Norwich.

All Hallows Convent is situated in 22 acres of beautiful grounds, on the outskirts of the village of Ditchingham near the historic town of Bungay. We are approximately 12 miles south of Norwich on the B1332 road, and stand on a small country lane, away from the bustle of life and the drone of traffic.

We offer guest accommodation in peaceful environment for retreat, rest, reflection and renewal in our two houses; one at Ditchingham within the Convent grounds and one in Norwich, adjacent to the Shrine of Julian.  These may be booked by individuals or small groups for a maximum stay of two weeks.

We are an Anglican Religious Community, but our facilities are available to all who would like to come. Individually guided retreats, spiritual direction or a listening ear are available services here but we do not provide therapeutic or medical support. All visitors must be able to care for themselves or bring an appropriate carer with them. We regret too that we are unable to cater for young families.

All Hallows House Norwich

All Hallows House, Norwich is an oasis in a busy city, providing space for those wishing for a time of study, quiet or private retreat and also for those visiting the Julian church and shrine.  We regularly welcome overseas visitors.

The house has three double and three single bedrooms, two sitting rooms, a dining room and a chapel.  Wi-Fi is accessible in the building.

A small pleasant garden at the back looks over the church garden and the shrine of Julian of Norwich.   Next door, the Julian Centre houses an extensive spiritual library.  There are also cards, books and other items for sale.

The house caters for visitors requiring bed, breakfast and an evening meal.

Lavinia House Ditchingham

Lavinia House is set in the gardens of All Hallows Convent, surrounded by farmland.  It is suitable for individuals or small groups.  Our wish is to provide our guests with the opportunity of a calm, peaceful and restful atmosphere.  Guests may be residential for short breaks or may come as day visitors.

LaviniaHouseAllHallows600The house offers a large and small sitting room, the latter being used as a quiet room for those on silent retreat.  In the larger sitting room, books and a television are provided for relaxation.  The house has its own spacious garden.

There is a dining room and a large kitchen.  It is possible for guests to be either self-catering or full board during their stay.

The house has two ground floor bedrooms, and three singles, one twin-bedded and one double room on the first floor and all bedrooms are now en-suite.

We are pleased and excited to announce the opening of a poutinia (indoor hermitage) within Lavinia House. This spacious first floor self-contained flat is available for those seeking complete solitude during their stay.

The Convent chapel is within walking distance of the house.  Guests are welcome to join the Sisters for services if they wish or to use the Chapel for their own personal quiet times; also, of course, to walk in the Convent grounds.

Our Ditchingham grounds are designed to support quiet reflection.

Now operating as a smaller Community we have the facilities to cater for small day groups of up to 15 people or residential retreats for up to 6 people.  We ask that groups of 8 or more bring a packed lunch with them, drink making facilities are available.  Booking at Ditchingham will give you the use of the Convent Chapel and downstairs rooms in Lavinia House, Ditchingham during your visit.

We are occasionally asked to lead your quiet days or to provide input throughout the day, which we are very happy to do. If you are interested in this, please mention it when you first book, so we can arrange your visit for a date a retreat leader is available.  We would also be pleased to travel  to your Parish to lead a retreat.

Our Teach us to Pray workshop is a very popular choice.  We frequently attend WI groups, clubs and schools to talk about our Community and our life as a Sister at All Hallows. Please contact us to discuss this.

As well as leading group retreats, we can provide an individually guided retreat to guests staying in our retreat house.   We also offer a spiritual direction service.
