Church stages fun day for whole Norfolk town

WymondhamFunDayBy Aaron Curran
2010: A South Norfolk church took over a public park in Wymondham recently to stage its annual fun day for the whole town.
Ketts Park hosted the Wymondham Fun Day, an annual event organised by City Church, an event that has seen success over the past eight years that it has been running and 2010 was no exception.
The weather was fantastic the whole day with lots of sunshine and hot temperatures, tempered with a welcomed breeze. The attendees to the event were kept well entertained with a wide range of attractions and shows which included a presentation from Wymondham
Falconry Display, giving spectators an insight to the behaviours of different birds of prey as well as a demonstration of how police dogs are trained to help catching criminals. There was also a dance performance from the City Church Dance Team, a display from Silhouettes Majorette Team and drama from the Kett Theatre Society.
L. Gray and Sons Family Fun Fair provided fun fair rides especially suited to teenagers and adults. These rides were very popular and ran well alongside the usual attractions which included kids go-carts, bouncy castles and other children’s rides.
One of the highlights of the Fun Day on July 4 was the success of a prayer tent which was introduced this year. The tent gave the opportunity for people to come and experience the power of God by being prayed for by members of City Church. Numerous people popped in for prayer with two people giving their lives to Christ. This saw the dream and motivation behind the Fun Day achieved, as its purpose is to make a difference in the lives of people in Wymondham as well as publicising that God is interested in the whole person - physically, socially and spiritually.
Phil Thorne, senior pastor of City Church, said: “City Church seeks to organise and administer the Wymondham Fun Day with excellence to promote the values of God’s Kingdom and the person of Jesus Christ. We aim to get the message across that God loves people, He loves family and He wants us to enjoy being together while having fun. I believe we achieved that this year.”
