The Very Revd Jonathan Meyrick (right) has been named as the next Suffragan Bishop of Lynn after his nomination was approved by the Queen, and he will be unveiled at a school assembly this morning.

Mr Meyrick (58), who is currently Dean of Exeter, will succeed the Rt Revd James Langstaff who is now Bishop of Rochester. He will be introduced as the next Bishop of Lynn by the Bishop of Norwich at a special assembly at Whitefriars Church of England Primary School in King’s Lynn this morningon Monday morning (14 March).

The church school has recently been placed in the top 9% of schools in the country after being rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted Inspectors.

Jonathan Meyrick trained for ordained ministry at Sarum and Wells Theological College and served his curacy in the Diocese of Oxford, followed by three years as Chaplain to the Bishop of Oxford. After a spell teaching in Barbados, he returned to Oxford to serve in two rural team ministries before becoming Canon Pastor of Rochester Cathedral. Since 2005 he has been Dean of Exeter and Priest-in-Charge of Central Exeter.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Meyrick said: “My family and I are excited by prospect of life in a new county which we know slightly, but not yet well. I am relishing the prospect of new challenges and look forward in particular to working with ministerial colleagues and with the people of north-west Norfolk for the common good of all in our communities, and to playing my part in this new role in helping to make real the love of God in Jesus Christ.”

The Bishop of Norwich, the Rt Revd Graham James, said: “I’m delighted that Jonathan Meyrick is joining us as Bishop of Lynn. He has a rich and varied experience in ministry and knows what it is to lead a group of rural parishes as well as lead a cathedral. He has many gifts which will be well used here and I’m confident he will soon be greatly appreciated. I look forward to welcoming him as a colleague and ask everyone to pray for him and his family as they prepare for their move from Exeter.”

Jonathan Meyrick is married to Rebecca, who is a specialist palliative care nurse, and they have one son and two daughters. His interests include acting, singing, theatre, swimming, walking, travel, good food and wine, and reading.
