Quilts and Christmas trees at Fakenham Church

Fakenham Xmas tree Fest 2012A Quilt Collection exhibition will be running at Fakenham Parish Church this week, and preparations are in hand for the annual Christmas Tree festival at the end of November.

The exhibition, which includes a spectacular display of 32 quilts from the USA, has a preview evening which will be open to the public from 7.30pm -9 pm on Wednesday October 2. The exhibition itself runs for 3 days from October 3 to 5. Daily at 10am - 4pm. Entrance is free but with an opportunity to donate to the church. There will be stalls and refreshments and there is disabled access throughout.

The event is going ahead despite a five yearly report from the Church Architect, Nick Warns, which warned Fakenham Church Council that the stone Chancel floor at the far end of the church should not be used by any heavy weights or large amounts of 'footfall'. A structural engineer has now inspected the chancel floor and decided it could continue to be used as normal for the time being.
The 13th annual Christmas Tree Festival runs from November 28 to December 28 and is regarded by many as the highlight of the church year in Fakenham, attracting over 25000 people last year.

The festival will be open from 10am to 8pm each day, with the Church being lit up by over 90 Christmas Trees, each decorated for one of the 81 charities taking part.

Entrance is free but visitors are invited to bring a bag of coins in order to donate money at their favourite charity tree(s). Charities range from national charities such as the British Heart Foundation to local schools and nurseries.

Throughout the Festival refreshments are available, including reasonably priced lunches and teas using local produce and homemade cakes and scones. Coach parties should book in advance with £25 deposit. There is also a walk-through Festival Market selling many items for Christmas including cakes and cards.

There is ample parking in Fakenham and the nearby Tesco Store allows 3 hours of free parking.

Last year £22,000 was raised in loose change for charities, and during the last 12 years over £250,000 has been donated to charities taking part.
