Flash Mob choir to sing at Fakenham church

Norwich Community choir 400Norwich Community Choir, which has become known for its “flash mob” appearance at the Forum in Norwich, will be singing at Fakenham Parish Church on Saturday April 5. Tony Rothe reports.

The choir was formed in November 2008 by Meg Turpin, who has lived and worked as a teacher in the area for over 20 years, and aims to promote, through singing, a sense of well being and a feeling of belonging to the community. She is also a member of the Natural Voice Practitioners.

“People come to our choir simply because they love singing, there is no other prerequisite. There are no auditions and you don't need to read music. If you think you can't sing you probably can when surrounded by friends. If you want a polished choir this is not for you but if you want to have fun and create a beautiful sound then come along. We welcome everyone” said Meg. “We all know that singing makes us feel happy, and now doctors tell us that there are great benefits to physical and emotional health. We are delighted to be invited to Fakenham to cheer everyone up after such a wet and miserable winter”

The choir has performed at weddings, garden parties and events throughout Norfolk. They have also created a singing “Flash Mob” at the Forum in Norwich as part of the 10th birthday celebrations of the Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library at the Forum, (kindly filmed by Paul Leonard of BBC Voices Project). This can be seen on YouTube .

The concert being held at Fakenham Parish Church on Saturday April 5 at 7.30pm is in aid of the restoration fund for All Saints Church in Stibbard.  Tickets are £8 each and include a glass of wine or tea/coffee, and are available from the organiser Eunice Norwood  -  tel 01328 855665 or email emn@cardinal37.com

The joy of this choir is infectious; they will move you and have you laughing and they may well get you singing along, but what is for certain is that you will go home with a big smile” said Eunice.
