Christians Against Poverty course in Stalham
2015: A successful Christians Against Poverty money course has just completed at Stalham Baptist Church, and another course is planned for the autumn. Tony Rothe reports.
The CAP Money Course is a free course that teaches budgeting skills and a simple, effective, cash-based system. The course is designed so that participants will get to grips with their finances in just a few weeks so they can budget, save and prevent debt.
This was the first CAP course run by Stalham Baptists and Pastor Ron Skivington said they found it useful as they were able to see how effective the course is.
Ron explains “One participant said they had never having budgeted properly before, and another said it gave them a whole picture of their finances which they had never had before, and so both felt more in control of their money. The course will help anyone learn to budget or get a clearer picture of their money where it comes from and where it is going. It is not just to help those who have got into debt and are needing help to get out.”
The course ran over three fortnightly sessions:
1 Building a budget
2 Setting up a workable financial system
3 Looking at savings and recap.
The CAP website says :
We exist because nobody should be held hostage by debt and poverty. But the truth is that they are rife in the UK. In a society where people live behind closed doors, thousands are desperately poor. Unable to feed their children, incapable of paying to heat their homes in winter, the grip of poverty is relentless. It breaks families apart and drives many to think that suicide is the only solution.
We are passionate about releasing people in our nation from a life sentence of debt, poverty and their causes. Through our four services, which are all run through local churches, we are tackling poverty head on. Our vision is to bring freedom and good news to people in every community through 3,000 CAP projects by 2021.
The church is planning to run another course in October. Anyone interested in attending, or just wishing to find out more should contact Pastor Ron Skivington.
