Laptops boost for Norwich church JobClub

A boost has been given to a new Christians Against Poverty Jobclub which is to be launched in a Norwich city centre church with a cash grant  towards two new laptop computers

CAPThe EDP have designed a great way of drawing people into a huge variety of projects around the county and St Stephen’s church were awarded £250 towards the cost of two laptop computers needed for the setting up of a CAP Jobclub through the "Community Chest" programme.

Madeline Light, priest-in-charge of St Stephen’s added “this enabled us to partner with numerous neighbours within the parish who helped us collect the required 500 tokens. It was an up hill task as each paper initially only contained single tokens with 5 tokens on Saturdays. Congregation members asked friends and relations for help and this way not only did we collect the 500 tokens but all these people know about the CAP Jobclub starting at St Stephen's. Everyone knows that being unemployment is a big problem in our city.”

The CAP Jobclub gives intensive help to small groups of people who are unemployed. It forms a supportive community and gives well tried and tested advice via the CAP Jobclub course. St Stephen’s are very blessed to have two members of the congregation who have the right skills to train as manager and coach.

The first of the 14 week JobClub courses commence at the the end of March on a weekly basis in the meeting room at St Stephen's Church. Addressing the issue of unemployment, the JobClub will be open to all providing an opportunity for the church to provide resources and a community of encouragement to enable those seeking work to find meaningful employment.

Due to limited places, if anyone is interested in attending the CAP JobClub, it would be worthwhile booking a place through Jon Price (07947371514) who shall provide details as they arise.
