Mayor’s gift to North Walsham church

A £76,000 appeal to repair North Walsham Parish Church’s First World War memorial window has been boosted by the town’s outgoing mayor.

Brenda West, who stood down as mayor recently, handed over a cheque for £1,006 to vicar Rev Paul Cubitt. Mrs West had chosen the window appeal as her Mayor’s Charity during her year of office. The cash was raised at events including the December 2015 Christmas market, and culminated at a civic dinner in April at which a raffle raised £150.
The east window, dedicated in 1919, remembers soldiers from the parish who were killed in the Great War. It is collapsing under its own weight and it is feared that strong winds could damage it further.
