Charity needs King's Lynn counsellor as demand grows

Christian pregnancy loss charity TimeNorfolk, which recently opened an office in Gt Yarmouth, is seeing more demand than ever before for its support in the King’s Lynn area and is now advertising for a volunteer counsellor.

For 22 years TimeNorfolk has been based in Norwich, providing free face-to-face support to men and women who have experienced any type of pregnancy loss including miscarriage, stillbirth and termination.

It also provides support to women with unplanned or complicated pregnancies or who have any other pregnancy related issues. However, the demand for its services has grown in the past few years, according to director Lesley Bradfield, which led the charity to open a new office in Great Yarmouth recently and is currently seeing an increased need in West Norfolk.

“The loss of a baby is unimaginable for many people, but for the men and women who experience a pregnancy loss the effects can be far reaching and devastating, it has a ripple effect and does not just touch the parents but other siblings, grandparents and the wider family,” said Lesley.

“Many people who come to TimeNorfolk have mental health issues such as anxiety and depression, and we are passionate about their wellbeing. TimeNorfolk is a Christian charity but offers compassionate, non-judgemental support to people of all faiths and none.

“In the past two or three years the number of clients has grown by 65% and in the first three months of 2019 we saw a rise of 27.5% in client contacts over the same period last year,” said Lesley. “Due to our growing relationships in King’s Lynn with the Queen Elizabeth hospital, Wellbeing and GPs, the awareness of the service we provide is also growing in West Norfolk, especially King’s Lynn.

“We want to be able to give more support in this area, as what we currently have is proving not to be enough and Norwich is a long way for people to travel, so we are currently looking for volunteers with a Level 2 and 3 counselling qualification to help with the demand with clients who want support in this area,” said Lesley.
